One of Ireland’s top riders and Irish Team member, sixteen year old David O’Caoimh, who has been living and training in Orlando for the past three months, has been ‘spotted’ and signed by O’Brien International – one of the major players in the production of Wakeboard and Waterski equipment.
The O’Brien Team Manager, Wakeboarding legend Cobe Micacich, who happens to be married to the Waterski super-star Tarah Benzel USA, and who runs the boat lake at Florida’s OWC, had been watching David ride there and approached him this month to offer him a contract with O’Brien.
David, whose life revolves around Wakeboarding ( and his studies) and who has put in a phenomenal amount of hard work, which, together with top level coaching, has led to the offer, is ecstatic. He is already testing out the O’Brien range of equipment and is currently trying to choose between the Valhalla and Coda boards, both of which he says have amazing ‘pop’ and are light, fast and incredibly responsive.
David would like to take this opportunity to express his sincere gratitude to Rob Skelly of The Edge Watersports, NI, and the team at Ultrasport, UK, for all their ongoing help, sponsorship and encouragement. He’s also delighted that O’Brien will supply him with his equipment via Ultrasport and Rob Skelly (who distribute and sell O’Brien in Ireland).
Whilst Irish riders regularly ‘punch above their weight’ on the International scene, this is the first time that an Irish National Rider has been signed up internationally by a major board company.
Congratulations David! We will all be watching you this season!
